The Ministry of Trade and Industry has selected the MIC-IT to be the premier training provider for the Apprenticeship Programme for the Wood and Wood Products Manufacturing Sub-Sector (Woodworking Apprenticeship Programme or WoodAP).
The WoodAP is an apprenticeship course designed to not only fill the existing gaps but will seek to transform the wood and wood products sector to deliver higher value added products as the Programme will upskill apprentices in new and emerging woodworking processes. WoodAP promotes technological advancement through the adoption of new technology such as AutoCAD, CNC Machining and personal tablet devices and the introduction and use of new technological machinery for the development and printing of woodworking designs. The ability to produce products higher up the value chain provides the opportunity for increased revenue to be generated by the sector.
The Apprenticeship Programme for the Wood and Wood Products Sub-sector builds on the MIC-IT Level II Certificate in Joinery under the National Skills Development Programme (NSDP) which aims to produce skilful, competent, creative and innovative joiners who can work well in the industry and become successful entrepreneurs.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has selected the MIC-IT to be the training coordinator for its Yachting Marine Apprenticeship Programme (YMAP).
This Programme aims to prepare trainees in specialised skill areas with the competencies to troubleshoot, service, maintain and repair marine vessels used within the yachting and related industry.
The Programme will comprise ten (10) specialisations based on the skill competencies this sector requires in Trinidad and Tobago.
Each specialisation will be delivered using a face-to-face modality for all the skill areas. During this period, trainees will complete a series of content-related modules, together with practical on-the-job training that will help them to acquire and master their technical skill-sets.
Learners will be coached by skilled professionals, who operate within the maintenance service field of the Marine Maintenance Industrial Sector.
In addition to the courses in the Specialised Skill Areas, trainees will also be provided with the necessary modules in Applied Mathematics, Communication, Life Skills and Entrepreneurship to support their learning.
